Homemade Deodorant - All Natural and Effective!

November 23, 2020

Today I would like to share my Natural Deodorant recipe!

After experimenting with many different ingredients and recipes, I have found this one to be the easiest to make, store, and use.

Using a natural deodorant is especially important for our health since most commercial deodorants and antiperspirants are full of unhealthy toxins.

This article from Made Safe will give you a rundown of some of the top toxic ingredients found in commercial deodorants, and how they can be harmful to you:

So to avoid all of those toxins, here is the recipe and instructions!

Ingredients:

6 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
4 Tablespoons Shea Butter
3/4 Cup Baking Soda
4 Tablespoons Arrowroot Powder
20 Drops Melaleuca Essential Oil*
15 Drops Cypress Essential Oil*
10 Drops Patchouli Essential Oil*

Instructions:

Fill a small to medium sized pot halfway with water
Bring the water to a boil on the stove
Add the Coconut Oil and Shea Butter to a glass canning jar and place the jar in the boiling water (water should only cover about half of the jar)
Boil (lightly) until both ingredients are melted

Remove from heat and add Baking Soda and Arrowroot Powder

Mix well

Add Essential Oils and mix well again

If the mixture seems like it is not thick enough, add a little more baking soda

Pour into storage containers and place in the refrigerator until ingredients harden

After the ingredients harden, it is not necessary to store in the refrigerator

It is recommended to store in a place that is not extremely warm though as contents may melt again

This deodorant works best when stored in shallow pots, scooped out with the fingers, and applied to underarms with the fingers

*Feel free to experiment with other Essential Oils if you have favorite scents. Melaleuca is antibacterial and antifungal, so it is a great one to keep in the recipe. You can try Lavender, Clary Sage, or Lemongrass if desired

The combination of Melaleuca, Cypress, and Patchouli is great for men because it isn't flowery or "feminine"
